Long driveways change the calculation
A hundred-foot driveway is not just more square footage. It is more opportunity for the ground beneath to vary, more distance over which drainage has to work, and more surface for a single low spot to collect water from.
We survey the fall along the full length before quoting anything substantial here, because a drive that sheds water at the top and ponds at the bottom is a very common and entirely preventable outcome.
Sandy base, again
The sub-base through this region drains beautifully and holds a load poorly without proper preparation. Excavation, organic removal, a graded aggregate base and real compaction is the whole job — the asphalt on top is comparatively straightforward.

A great many communities here maintain their own roadways, and the same pattern applies as elsewhere: they were built together and they age together. Boards that get a condition assessment and sequence preventive work spend materially less over twenty years than boards that patch reactively.
